It also organizes the biggest expositions of InfoTech related items which compare with international standards.

Shri M.K.Shah (2000 - 2001 )

During the tenureship of President M.K.Shah, COMPASS continously achieve their targets and goals.

In the year 2000 - 2001
-75 new companies joined the Association. This reflects the growing popularity of COMPASS.

-COMPASS has requested the State Government to provide the land for setting up a modern and a well equipped IT Plaza in Kolkata.

COMPASS 2001 was sponsored by M/S Seagate Inc., Singapore and Co-sponsored by Frontech, held at Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata. A total no. of 164 stalls and 4 pavilions exhibited a stupendous variety of computers hardware and software. Honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya visited the exhibition and addressed the participants and Compass member for its efforts for the growth and development of It industry in the state.

Second hand Computer Exhibition organised by COMPASS for 2 days on 8th 9th Sept. 2001 at Calcutta Chamber of Commerce. The exhibition put on display a wide variety of used computers and peripherals in good working condition at amazingly low prices to common people.

The Association played an important role of a catalyst in lowering the sales tax on computer hardware in West Bengal. Sales tax on computer hardware was reduced from 5% to 4%.

COMPASS efforts to curb software piracy: In its endeavour to stem the menance of software piracy, COMPASS extended support and help to National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) and Business Software Alliance (BSA). COMPASS stood against software piracy and has taken initiatives along with software vendors and NASSCOM to combat piracy. The assocation has issued circulars to its member to promote software packages.

IT Directory of Eastern India in Compact Disc. was released during COMPASS 2001 exhibition. CD contained an exhaustive list of over 2000 addresses of channel partners, training centres, service providers, IT traders etc of 11 states of Eastern Region.

Donation: M/s. Seagate Inc., Singapore, donated Rs. 1,00,000 to COMPASS-Ankur Computer Training Centre. The Executive Committee decided to start a second computer centre at, COMPASS - Amragori Computer Training Centre at Amragori, Howrah with the help of Amragori Juba Sangha, a Rotary Community Corp of Rotary Club of Calcutta Metropolitan East.
COMPASS donated Rs.2,00,000 for the relief of the vicitims of a devastating earthquake in Gujarat earlier this year.

COMPASS Members' Directory was decided to release this year during Annual General Meeting of Compass. The responsibility of publications is totally undertaken by COMPASS staff.
